Come See Me at the Banned Books Reading at WCSU Danbury

I will be reading from Press Pause Moments: Essays about Life Transitions by Women Writers today from 1pm-2:30pm at Western Connecticut State University's midtown campus in Danbury, CT. I will be joined by seven other professors from the school who will also be reading from their works. The readings are part of the Banned Books Faculty Authors' Series.

The event takes place on the 1st floor of Warner Hall. I am a graduate of WestConn's MFA in Creative & Professional Writing program.

I've started a new guest blogger gig on a site called CreatedbyChicks! My ongoing topic will be transitions. Today's post is called Cool Transitions and is all about the change from summer to fall and how it signifies a time of renewal and refreshment. Change happens when we change behavior to achieve a certain result, and I offer a few tips on simple ways you can take actions to move you toward your goals.

Lake George Family Camping Fun

My latest and greatest travel blog post is now up and ready to be read on TravelingMom.com!

As you may remember, several years ago I wrote a personal essay about our first camping trip with several other families...definitely a different experience for this former "let's backpack and sleep under the stars" kind of woman!

That was 2007. This was our fifth year "roughing it" with our friends. Over the years we've camped in Connecticut, Vermont, and this year New York. The kids have gone from tween and younger into the teens. All the grown ups have grown older but can still survive sleeping in tents (though my husband and I upgraded to cots this year because of bad backs).

This year was a bit different. We went to beautiful Lake George, New York, where not only did we get the joys of camping and a wonderful beach to swim, but we had the lovely village of Lake George within a five minute drive, perfect for a day outdoors with all the amenities of a vacation destination.
