Here are some additional photos I took while hiking with my husband at Red Rock Canyon, Nevada, in winter 2007.

I love photography. When I was in elementary school, I took some courses at the Audubon Society on nature photography and was hooked. Years later, after my children were born, I started playing with the 35mm again, then got in the ease of digital. Someday -- once I have completed my MFA -- I hope to go back and take some courses on digital photography, get a really good camera, and start some serious picture taking. In the meantime, I try to get out whenever possible and experiment. Here are some images from a special autumn day I managed to sneak away and take a meditational hike along a trail in a nearby state forest. For the first time, I started to play with some of the settings instead of just a point-and-shoot approach.

About Dave Barry and Spitting Coffee

Last night it was Yeats and and exploration of The Wild Swans at Coole.  This morning it's  Dave Barry and his classic column about childbirth classes.  It certainly is an eclectic semester for the eclectic writer!

Barry  inspires me in ways different from Yeats; sort of evoking a "spit out my coffee" reaction coupled with doubled-over laughing that sends my family  running in to see if maybe, this time, I'm really going over the edge.

So....in Dave's honor I'm starting an "Ever Wonder Why?" category on my blog. Dave, like me, seems to pick up on those quirky little observations about life that seem oblivious to the rest of the human race, but would probably make even Socrates stop to think should he happen to pay a visit to the 21st century.

Things like...Ever Wonder Why we hear so much about childhood obesity reaching epidemic proportions-- while at the same time the parent-teacher organization announces yet another chocolate and candy fundraiser, and recess minutes barely give our kids enough time for a round of dodgeball?

Have you ever wondered about this?  Feel free to post to this blog entry or email me at AnneWitkavitch@adelphia.net . I'd love to hear from you!
