October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I'm sure you know this as it is difficult not to come across a pink ribbon, fundraiser walk or pink-tinted marketing campaign over the period of 31 days. Awareness, however, shouldn't be just about a theme. The ultimate goal of awareness is to bring about a change in behavior; to do something differently to change an outcome. Breast Cancer Awareness Month should then help us do something different in order to proactively manage the health of our breasts and our bodies.
In Press Pause Moments there are four essays related to breast cancer. Three are by women who are breast cancer survivors and share their experiences dealing with mastectomies. One is by a woman whose breast cancer scare helps her to evaluate life and her relationship with her mother. I will be featuring posts about these women and their words and, when possible, podcasts of them reading their essays and other related writings about breast cancer. By doing so I hope to create awareness of real life stories of women who have faced the disease head on, as well as other information that will help you maintain wellness and health.
If you are a woman who likes to write and have a story to share about your experience with breast cancer, please submit it to me using the Contact Me link. While I can't promise to post all stories I will consider all essays that come in.
